I have a severe sore throat with phlegm and severe headache?

For a few days now I've had a severe sore throat with phlegm and a mive headache. tylenol does nothing for it but my wife has an active prescription for hydrocodone (loratabs) and those take the headache away for a while and most of the throat pain, but it still hurts a bit. I'd rather not have to go to the doctor if I can avoid it as it is damn expensive and I don't want it to be something I can treat at home. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
