Am I too old to start learning the cello? And how long does it take?

Well I really love the cello, but I'm worried that I might be too old, since I'm 17, and most people start when they're a lot younger. And apparently it's harder to learn things when you're older. So am I too old to start learning to play? And how long would it take to learn, like on average?
