Does the female bodies immune system kill sperm cells?

the female reproductive system is hostile..adding to what previous posters wrote: two sperm are needed to fertilize an egg.. let me explain. there is a protective coating on the egg and when one sperm tries to and combine with the egg, it is immediately killed off. now the next sperm can go inside because the coating is gone by then.
